Sunday 8th July saw 9 Arabian gymnasts travel out of Milton Keynes to Wisbech for the annual Senior Apparatus competition.
The first round of Charis Dilnot, Gracie Frame, and Popi Taylor were first up and with temperatures inside the gym as hot as outside, they were in for a scorcher!
For all 3 of these girls, it was there first time competing away from Arabian and what a brilliant competition they had. They showed elegance and pose when they were on the beam and power for the vault and tumbling side. Their hard work in the gym had clearly paid off!Popi took the silver on vault and an energetic bars got her the gold medal. Charis was close on Popi’s heels and took the 3rd for her strong vault along with a bronze for bars. Gracie showed elegance and strength on all events showing just how far she has come in the sport, this got her a 2nd for her bars.
The afternoon saw the slightly older girls take to the stage in Emilee Brooks, Loucie White, Sophie Myers, Mackenzie Butler, Eloise Smith and Kasey Tuck.
Emilee Brooks had a fantastic day coming away with 4 medals, a gold for her bars and beam work along with a silver for vault and a bronze for tumble. She also took home a trophy for the highest beam scorer of her round. Loucie showed how good she was at the bars and with a near perfect routine, she was able to clinch the gold medal position along with a bronze for vault and a silver for the beam. Sophie was strong on the floor and with acrobatic tumbles how could she not take home the gold. That’s exactly what she did along with a bronze for beam and silver on bars.
Juggling exams along with still trying to train for a competition is never easy but that’s exactly what Eloise did. Eloise gained a silver medal for her elegant bar work along with a bronze for her tumbles on the floor. Kasey Tuck showed her artistic flair on the beam which gained her a silver medal, along with a silver for floor and a bronze for the bars. Mackenzie fell just outside the medals for vault floor and beam but her bars was so tidy that she gained the gold medal as well as a trophy for the highest scoring bar routine of the round.
Coaches Sammii, Vicki and Elliemay traveled to Wisbech to support the gymnasts and make sure they were relaxed and well hydrated for the competition. If it wasn’t for the coaches teaching them their routines the gymnasts would not have picked up the medals they had so thank you to them.
Coach Sammii said ” It is so nice to see the older girls who still have exams and school pressure, yet they come to training every session and still love the thrill of competing. Thanks to Claire at Fenland Gymnastics club and all the rest of the team that has helped put together another superb event.”
