Arabian gymnast Darcey walked 5 miles on Easter Sunday in Milton Keynes.
Darcey walked round Willen Lake to raise money for her gym which is a non profit registered charity and it will be ring fenced towards a specalised landing mat at the end of the balance beams.
Darcey, who is 4 and a half years old, and type one diabetic (which means she needs to inject insulin daily)
is the youngest gymnast to raise funds in such a way for the charity. She undertook a massive walk with huge risks with her parents and half way round she indeed had a lowering of sugar levels, also known as a hypo, a brief stop and intake of sugar was all it took for the energetic and charismatic Darcey to fulfil her ambition of walking five miles raising £530 to date.
Head Coach Al said
“I’m truly amazed at what Darcey has done, she is a wonderful personaility within the club and for someone so young to be so ambitious is a first. I want to thank Darcey and her very supportive parents, the good news for Darcey is the mats we will buy will serve thousands of children.
From everyone at the club, the trustees, coaches and gymnasts…. thank you.”
Darcey’s ambitions don’t stop there, as next year she looks to do the same again but a longer distance.
